Hello,

I just added more fish yesterday. I have a weird problem it seems that I have losted several fish? I don't know where they went? I do not know where if the tin foil barb would have ate them (several smaller tiger barbs and a golden gouramis) I have never saw the tinfoil barb really chase the other fish. Could they have jumped out of the tank? The tank has such small gaps in the top and the canopy. Could have 3 fish hopped out in the last 2 or 3 days? The tinfoil is alot larger than the other fish. I am sure I would have seen the bones of the dead fish around the tank or in the filters? Maybe David Cooperfield if making my fish vanish? really weird.

I also added more fish - maybe dinner for my tinfoil barb........

What kind of fish did you add?

I would say if they were able to fit in the tinfoils mouth...he had a snack..;)

Missing were several tiger barbs, and a golden gouramis don't think they would have fit in the tinfoil barb's mouth......... ????
The tinfoil eats a lot it seems

I would have to agree with that...hmm... however it is still possible that the tinfoil ate them. Just how big is the tinfoil? How you ever watched them late at night with the lights out?

it's possible the pictus ate the remains.

I leave the smaller, non-diseased fish in my tank after they're dead.. overnight at least (usually feeders the needlefish missed but injured enough to kill). 90% of the time there is nothing left when I wake up (my Raphael and Goby love it)

and an 8'' tin foil barb? That sounds big enough to eat the smaller fish. My needlefish are much smaller than that and I'm sure could only eat a fraction of what the tin foil barb does, yet they somehow manage 2 small goldfish a night.

Most likely the tinfoil barb is eating them although it is possible that the pictus cat or some other kind of catfish if it is in the tank could snack on them too. I have the same problem going on in my 125 where I recently added some blood fin tetras. They have been disappearing and I think they are being picked off by some of the other larger fish or the striped rapheal cat or the pictus cats. I will not be adding any more of them since it was not my intention for them to be a snack for my other fish. As far as the fish disappearing in your tank I would almost bet that they are being eaten.

If they hoped out Im guessing they would still be on the floor, unless another pet ate them off the floor.

*" tinfoil must be eating my other fish... well I am getting another tank anyways. I was thing about setting up a cichlid only tank 75 or 90+ gallon tank. Could I add the tinfoil there? Or should I get another tank for the tinfoil and start a new tank for him and maybe some larger fish?

Another 75 Gallon

OK I decied to get another 75 gallon tank. The old lady said not to get rid of our hungry 8" tinfoil..... She said just get another tank.... Well OK

I got another 75 gallon tank with 2 eheim 2329 pro3 canisters. I am wondering what kind if tank to setup for the tinfoil... I like the sand instead of rocks/pebbles? Should I add power heads or other filters, my existing tank has a hob and ugf with powerheads.

will the new setup work with these fish?

2 BALA SHARKS APPROXIMATELY 7 INCHES LONG
2 COY APPROXIMATELY 5 INCHES LONG
2 CATFISH AROUND 6 INCHES LONG

how much are these fish worth? I have a guy that is getting ot of the hobby and wants to sell these guys. Will the tinfoil be OK with them in the tank? I don't want to have the same problem again and have to get another tank. I was just going to get rid of the tinfoil and setup a cichlid tank. But she was like you can't just get ride of the fish - even though we have be replacing fish for the last month he has been eating. like 4-5 a week.
Is it ok to use some of the water from the existing tank and put one of the eheims from the existing tank to get things started. Then put everything back where they should be later. The existing tanks parameters are perfect. Would the water paramenters be ok for the above fish also.

Anyways your thoughts are appreciated.

Well I ended up getting another 75 for the tinfoil barb... I had to try this. Curiousity - Q: will he eat live feeders A: Well yes he will.
We put 10 feeder fish in and 8-10 hours later no more feeder fish.
It was him all the time eating our fish in the other tank.

So would it be better to feed him feeder fish and supplement that with flakes an other fish foods? We also feed him frozen bloodworms and brineshrimp

Thanks
