Fish Behavior+Co2

Hello All,
What would cause my puffer to gasp for air at the surface?
I didn't do anything drastic this morning. But I did pump up the co2 just a notch. 2bps from 1bps.

But I ran out and left the heater on this house when I came home the temp was about 28/29c.... So I put a bag of ice in the water to bring the temp down. Dropped the co2 down to less than 1bps and turned off the lights.

Is there one particular thing that would cause a fish to gasp for water?
Water parameters are fine. No Nitrite, Nitrates, or Ammonia. pH ~7-7.2

increasing CO2 will decrease pH. in addition to the CO2 change and likely resulting pH change, you also changed temperature ... all within a pretty short window of time. this lack of environmental stability is pretty stressful to fish.

warm water = less dissolved O2 in the water.

when that happens add an airstone.
