Hi everyone, I just lost yet another sweet fragile platy to a big red bully platy. I tried everything to protect my little "Sparkle" and found him curled up dead the other day. What do you do with your bullies? I can't even stand to look at him anymore and want to get rid of him, but can't bear to euthanize him, even though he's a killer.

Roan art has a good point but if you dont have or mabey cant afford another tank right now try to give it away, euthinazation ((sp?)) should really be a last resort IMO but im sure most people have the same sentiment

Depending on the size of the tank you could get a divider and put him and the fish he dosn't pick on on one side and the fish he does pick on the other. Not the prettiest choice, though. O' and btw I didn't vote either.

I had a Midas that was trying to kill everything in my tank, lucklly I found a LFS that traded him/her for three juvinile fish,a Black Belt,Firemouth and a Turquoise Jewl.I voted for the third option.

some bullies are a pain, but some are real phychos that are capable of bullying other fish to death. in which case giving it away is just moving the problem onto other people so the fish can kill elsewhere. i don't think it's fair.
If it's a real killer of a bully rather than just a big pest then if you don't have the 'another tank option' i say you need to kill it before it kills the rest of your tank. Before When I first got into fish keeping and had no extra tanks to deal with these situations, I had a phycho danio that i didn't have the heart to kill until it had wasted over half a tank full of fish. i should've dealt with the matter sooner and had less deaths on my hands.

Having said that, i've never had to euthanise anything larger than a danio before for any reason. I think if I had something like a Jack Dempsey or something with real character i would'nt have the stomach to do it, so what do i know.

what size tank is this, and what fish do you have?

Holly, 20 gallon. I had 2 platies, two cory catfish, 5 neon tetras & 2 ottos. I delivered my killer platy to the LFS but as usual, they didn't know what I was talking about, even though I spoke to the manager the day before, and of course, the manager wasn't there. He said he'd put my fish in a separate tank to be sure he was OK before adding to the main tanks. I hope he did, I would feel real bad if he just flushed my fish. A gorgeous platy but very mean. I'm afraid he terrorized my ottos--I never see them anymore, they're always hiding.

I had a pair of Gold gourami's that were bullies, I put them in a 2 gal tank facing the other tank and left it there for a week and then put it back in the tank....no more bullying
