i have a 25g tank, at the moment i have 4 swordtails, and a pleco, i know the pleco will get to big for the tank but its to late now,
anyway, i was googling tank combinations and found an online calculator which takes ur tank size and what fish you want and tells you combinations of different fish annd how many that can go with that fish, so i put in 25g and swordtail, and it told me only to put in 4 swordtails... is that right?
if i put any other fish in the calculator it gives loads of combinations of different fish

anyway, if its wrong what fish do you guys suggest i like the look of those endlers, but ive never seen them in any of my pet shops are they rare

also thinking about:
angels but i think my ph is too high 7.4 is it?
Betta, my swordtails are quite aggressive would they nip the fins of the Betta, but they leave my pleco alone, they only seem to chase each other,
clown loach would they get to big for my tank?

i seen on a few sites that all these fish can be fine in the one comunity what do you think?
how many and what combonations could i get, i have plenty of hiding spaces high and low in the tank and plenty of swiming space

Would you mind sharing the site that you found w/those calculations? Sounds interesting.

Clown loaches no, but zebra or yoyo loaches would be fine, say three of them total. Or cories (I would stick to one bottom feeder). A single angel would be fine but the tank is a bit small for more than that.

Perhaps a gourami would be good instead of the betta. Lots of personality and a little tougher of a fish. The dwraf variety are very colourful.

I have a clown loach with 4 emerald cories, (a betta and a molly) which I mention only because there is only one loach but he is soooo social and I think it is because the cories keep him company.

If you get a betta, have an alternative set up if it doesn't work. Either bring it back or house it in something 1 gallon or more. They are pretty easy fish to have an alternate set up for as long as you do water changes. I tried both my bettas in a community tank at different times, and their behavior was night and day- and it was contrary to what I thought would happen, knowing the fishes temperment before I put them in a community.

Watch out though, cause if a fish is too flappy with it's fins, the betta might think it is another male and eat it. They are my favorite fish though, so i have to plug them.

Clowns will school with others for a time. But since they can get to be 8-10 inches in length soon they will be far too big to hang around with tiny cories.

how many kuhli loaches could i get away with? i read that they are shy when the are on there own in tanks, if i got 3 would that limit the amount of other fish i can get in the tank.

If the khulie loaches are the only bottom dwellers int he tank i would probably look at getting 5. They can be shy especially if kept alone but should be slightly more active with other in the tank.

thanks TKOS, i read somewhere that bottom dwellers dont take up to much of your "tank size/fish qoute",
do you think 5 will limit the amount of fish i can get into my 25g?

Bottom dwellers count in the toal amount of fish you can have. But khulie loaches (while able to get 3-4 inches long), are very slender fish and not heavy waste producers like heavier bodied fish. The pleco in your tank is the super waste producers and limits what you can keep. Once he is removed then that will free up a lot of space. I would add the khulies, let them settle down, watch for any ammonia spikes and then think about any additonal fish after that. A betta probably isn't a great idea with swordtails, but perhaps a gourami might be a nice idea. Th dwarf gouramis come in nice colours. Or honey gouramis as well.
