I usually right in the s/w forums but I had to put this one in here. I bought a spotted puffer from wal-mart(don't usually buy fish there) to put in my 55 gal mixed tank. There is a clown loach, rainbow shark, large red-bellied pacu, and two some what large africans. I put the puffer in the tank afetr acclimating. Within seconds the cichlids started to nip at the puffer, which I expected. I thought the puffer might make it, but probably not. Well, about 5 mins. pass and I check out the tank... well both cichlids were fighting for there lives. Breathing heavy, one had flipped upside down and was pretty much lifeless... the other was doing acrobatics and within several seconds was out. Meanwhile the terminator puffer was doing fine(that is before I got him).:mad2:
I never saw anything like this or heard about anything like this either. I do know that puffers are a brackish but I wanted to try it out. I called a couple fish store with no answer, they were shocked... the cichlids were more than 6 times its size. I called another store and they said that the puffer has a toxin in its slime that could have caused it... they too said they never heard of it.
Going to work adding some good matches for next time.
Be easy
