Fish for 10G tank

Note that Tara was talking about a 29 gal tank. Where her fish might have chosen to be together, in a 10 gal they'd be pretty much forced to be together. Of course it does depend on the individual fishonality, but in a 10 gal I wouldn't bet on a happy situation.

PS. Don't get a pleco for a 10 gal. ;)

They can max out around the 2 inch mark according to the profiles. Mine are still juveniles and less than an inch long, and I plan on upgrading to a 75/80 gal before too long. I think that if you've got good filtration and are careful about cleanings then you could probably get away with 5-6 even as adults.
 
Just my opinion, but I think in a 10g tank harlequins might be a bit too active for a dwarf gourami. I think that if the tank had say 6 harlequin raspborra and 3 panda cories it would be just fine. The other option would be to switch the pandas with 3 ottos if you do go with a planted tank. With plants you will probably have a bit of algae and corys are usually poor at getting rid of algae.
 
Forgot to mention, if you go with a betta at all you'll need to be careful about decorations. Plastic plants and some decorations can cut their fins. Best to go with silk plants or live ones.

True, ottos would help you stay on top of algae. Again remember that this is just a 10 gal tank. If you're careful about not overfeeding, don't place your tank in direct sunlight, and do regular cleanings, the few minutes that a couple of ottos (for algae) or a couple of cories (for particles) will save you isn't going to make that much difference. It still comes down to which critter you find more pleasing. Also, from what I've gathered lurking about, cories are a bit hardier than ottos.

won't the amano shrimp take care of the algae.

so if i understand this right:

i can get away with 5-6 rasboras if i have a good filter (is a fluval 1 good enough)

1 dwarf gourami OR a beta

3 corrys + amano shrimp OR 3 ottos
 
I have a free 10g tank, I suddenly have an idea to turn it into a rasbora tank:

5 harlequins
3 scissortails
3 corys

Sure would be active, I'll give it that.
