Getting a 7 foot, by 2 foot, by 2 foot. i am going to be setting it up as a reef tank. it will either have 2 or 3 MH with atinic supplements if needed. the tank will be equiped mith a calcium reactor and auto top off, and 1 very big skimmer in the sump. My Question is what types of fish should i put in this tank. i have been looking around and this is what i have come up with. i know not all can fit in this one tank, but i was wondering if people could comment on some of the fish in this selection.

1 regal anglefish (not so sure)
5 regal tangs
5 yellow tangs
2 clowns probably clarki
i know i will get a lot of discussion about this (1 Moorish Idol)
1 copper banded butterfly
shoal of banggai cardinials
2 cleaner wrasse
1 fox face
1 clown surgeon
1 powder blue tang
2 Dwarf Lionfish

thankyou

too many tangs

I know you will get plenty of live rock and thats going to tank up most of the room in your tank. I think the fish you have chosen will be alright until they start to grow. those yellow and regal tangs are goin to get between 7 and 10 inches a piece 5 of each will be way to much in about 1 1/2 years about 2 of each is all i think i would get.

i have decide to go for this list.

1 moorish 1dol
2 clarki
2 blue tang
2 yellow tang
1 copperband butterfly
shoal of cardinials (6)
and if it will fit maybe a regal anglefish

what do you tink. Maybe A few too many fish?? also i hear moorish idols are hard to keep but my mate gets them pretty often and doesn't sell them unless they are eating mysis or other commercialy available foods.

no morish idol... they are VERY hard to keep, pointless to get something that hobbists still don't know alot about it.

1 moorish 1dol

Go with something else. It won't live long. They have *very* specialized feeding requirements, I think they need lots and lots of sponges. We don't know enough about them for keeping them in aquariums.

i marine biologist i know collects them often and he get about 5 a month and it takes him like 3 weeks to train it to eat mysis shrimp, with additives to give it a healthy diet. so the ones he sells are already eating. Should i still get it, and i don't like the look of poor mans moorish idol, they havent got that look a bout them like a Moorish Idol has. are the stocking levels ok? i think i will leave out the regal anglefish, and get a blenny.

Moorish Idols will nips polyps and such in a reef, not a good reef fish if you want fun stuff like sponges and polyps plus 99 percent die within 3 months either to ich or improper diet! Plus the Tangs will majorly stress the Idol out. Be careful with the Copperband, they can nip polyps too. What about a type of Wrasse? And especially some gobies! I LOVE seeing schools of Bar/Scissortail, etc Gobies in reef tanks, they look really good! Anyway, hope this helps and good luck!
