Ok, I had to take my fish home last night because of Spring Break. Everything is set up, but the temperature probe isn't working. It is now the morning and the temp is 70-74, my fish is a beta in a 2.5 gallon tank. I have the tank light on. Is it just taking a long time for the temp to get up? What should I do? Please help!!!! I don't want my fish to die.

i believe that is an acceptable temp for a betta, most ppl don't keep betta's with heat, only room temp. so if your keeping him at least at 70 degrees, you should be fine, i'm also guessing that a 2.5 is using a incandesent light bulb. if you have a wal-mart near by, see if their "compact florescent" screw in light bulb will fit your fixture, they will produce more heat.
bettas should have heaters. they are tropical fish. but no, yours wont die at that temp for a short amount of time.
70* is way too cold for a betta fish. Minimum 75*, better is 78-82*.Pufferpoison said:

Bettas do just fine at room temp. Its entirely possible they *prefer* to be warmer but I kept a betta something like 4 years before he died in a 1g fishbowl. No light, filter, nada. Just an airstone. I was a kid too, so I wasnt exactly on top of the water changes like I should have been. I usually just dumped about half out into the sink and filled it back up with warm water about 1x every two weeks. Looking back on it, i couldve done more, but i was like 12 years old. Anyway, even with that level of care he live for about 4 years with no problems. Hope that helps.
