Fish from a recent netting trip

Great shots as usual, Uland. Man, I need to get up in the hills and see some of those rare Phoxinus; that Tennessee dace is magnificent.

I really want to snorkel with them as well. So many neat fish to see between KY and TN. I'll bet that Tennessee dace was much more colorful a few weeks prior. Looks like I'll have to come back and try again:D

Nice catch. Great shots too. I would love to have them little darters in my tank. They are so cute.
O yeah are you going to put that lamprey in your tank?? I thought they were like a parasite, where they stick to your larger fish and eat their flesh and slime.

All of the fish from this trip were released (except a few killifish on display at a museum). Some lamprey are parasitic while others never attach to fish as adults. Once they reach adulthood they have only one purpose...reproduction and die soon after accomplishing their goal.

Awesome

Tennessee dace are endangered, but some of the other Phoxinus species, like the northern (P. eos) and southern (P. erythrogaster) redbellies, do fine in ponds (if they stay cool) and in tanks. I have a couple southern redbellies in my stripe-necked musk turtle tank, and it's not a stream setup.

You westerners have had your native fish fauna hurt badly... It's a **** shame, because there are some fascinating western fishes.
