I was wondering what you guy think is the most intelligent, interesting, fish with the most personality? Ok my setup is a 90g with a xp3 with two 250 watt jagers. The fish cannot get over 8” and must not need a substrate or decorations. I would like a fish that is active at all levels and does well alone or in pairs. It doesn’t have to be a cichlid and I don’t care about color. I really wish there was a mini oscar, why don’t they create one, kinda the same as toy dogs. To sum it up I would like a fish that is more of a pet, hand feeding would me cool too

Tough requirements to fill. Most fish that big have a tendency to get bigger.

Why no substrate/decor?

First thing that comes to mind is a pair of discus though they like some foliage for hiding.

A pair of Jack Dempsey?

Maybe a Salvini? Mine acts just like a puppy begging for food.
Convicts arent too bad, firemouths and dwarf crenicichla wouldnt be too bad either.

OR, use it to grow out high quality flowerhorns and make some cash selling them when they get big:)

Discus are perfect for what you want. Discus do best in a bare bottom tank, which is what you have basically. Discus dont need anything to hide behind...discus should always be at the front of the tank wanting to be fed. A pair of discus would work great, but they would have to be an actual breeding pair for it to work because if you were to get a pair of small discus one would pick on the other one constantly and would end up stunted and possibly die due to the constant stress. Or you could get a small group of discus (no less than 5-6 as they are a schooling fish and establish a heavy pecking order). Either way would work great. They come in all colors...reds, yellows, blues, oranges...and everything inbetween (even albino now).
