well i got my friends 3 foot tank as he said i would with the 2 fancy goldfish in it, well thats not all he had in there, lets see first of all there are 3 big tetra things (Astyanax bimaculatus) i managed to find them, and they were nicely picking away at the goldfish, then there are 2, well, i think some sort of loaches

these are the clearest pics i can take using my phone. what are they? there are 2 and they were enjoying munching away on a single female guppy he had in there, she was trying to swim but they just kinda latched on her, i have euthanized her already, (cup of ice, freeze til crust on top, break crust and drop her in, she was gone in i would say 1-2 seconds). there was 1 single albino cory, who is now in my tropical tank with my 2 bronze corys, they are already sticking together like glue.also, and all this in one tank, 3, yes thats right 3, rainbow sharks, one is around 4 inches, and the other 2 are around 3 inches, 2 albino and 1 grey, he said they chase each other constantly :headshake2: so in this 36 x 12 x 16/18 inch tank he had 2 fancy goldfish around 4 inches long, 3 rainbow sharks, 1 guppy, 1 cory, 2 loach things and the 3 large tetra things. hes had it up and running now for around 4-5 months, never did a water change, just top ups, and dumped food in every now and again. he did say he had 2 blue gouramis in there but they disappeared :eek3: needless to say im taking all the tropical fish to the lfs tomorrow, and im buying new sand/gravel as i know for a fact there is at least 1 body in there, i have seen it sticking out of the sand,im not just cleaning it out coz il be grossed out,at the moment i have taken the 2 goldies out and put them in a 20 gallon tub, with no heater, and the tropicals are in another tub with the heater running, i will keep the filter running as its got to be full of bacteria,so i will clean that out in a bucket of old water from one of my maintained tanks. surprisingly, all the inhabitants, apart from the poor guppy, look in very good condition!

Chinese algea eaters (CAEs). They love to feast on a fish's slime coat, not sure why they are called algea eaters though.

wow that was a quick id, thanks,i thought they were a bit slim line for those, and im sure ive never seen them this colour, maybe im thinking of another fish altogether!

They look like CAEs to me, there are albino color forms of it which aren't really albino, more of an orange-yellow color.

they are also known as golden algae eaters. If they are small and picking on the goldies, they are severely underfed. These guys usually get more aggressive as they mature. I don't have any experience with them actually attacking other fish for their slime coat because their feeding was always up to par. I would assume if they are well fed, they won't be looking for the slime coats.

Chinese algae eater, when it get at least 3~4inches it'll be a pretty mean customer

hence me gifting them to my lfs tomorrow as soon as they open! all except the cory are going, the cory will be staying in my other tropical tank with his 2 new bronze buddies. the 3 foot tank ive just taken on will be cleaned out completely, and the 2 goldies will be going in there alone. i think they are just fantails, theres one calico one, and one grey/blue/silver one, the calico is missing part of his tail, but the grey one looks fine, hes a bit of a funny shape, his head seems to turn down a bit compared to any others ive seen, its like he has a long forehead, but they are both active and looking happy.
