Ok, I do not own this fish, but I thought it was interesting looking and wanted to learn more about what it is. I'm guessing its a male, based on the pointed dorsal/caudal fins, but I don't know much beyond that. The owner was kinda busy helping some other people, so I didn't have an opportunity to ask.

Please excuse the excessive crud on the glass, the LFS owner hasn't had time to clean up much of late.

looks like a green terror to me, but big cichs aren't really my thing.

Close enough Inka. Gold Saum Green Terror. Nice fish by the way!

definitely gold saum gt
gets aprox 8-10 inches it's from south america
you need a 55gal minimum for 1 but a 75gal is a much better choice
& like the name suggests they are terrors:)

Definitely a green terror (gold saum). Quite a good looking fish too. GTs have the typical large SA cichlid territorial aggression, but IMO aren't (usually) the terrors the name suggests. I've seen them successfully housed with other large cichlids like oscars, severum, texas, etc. in 125+ gallon tanks, agree with 55G minimum for one but preferably 75.

How do these fish fare with bottom dwellers? (corydoras and synodontis)

Good point... the specific synos I had in mind are synodontis nigriventris. (upside down catfish) As they only get to be 4", would they also be small enough to pose a threat?

Depends on what size they are when you get the GT and the UDCs. I'd recommend going a little bigger in the latter and going for a small specimen of the former and it might work out...a bunch of hidey holes for the cats might be necessary, too.

What about Striped Raphael Catfish? I've kept them with large cichilds for years and never had any problems. Their only downside is that they like to hide a lot.
