Well let's say it is 36"x15"x24". That comes to about 56g. However, when minimum tank sizes are given for fish they are using the assumption it is a long tank not a tall tank because fish don't generally swim up and down as I mentioned earlier.
So in that case I'd look at a tank with a 3g"15"24" footprint more as a 30g tank and stock for that. Then be happy if you put a honking big MH light on it you can use the extra height to grow SPS. =)
