I am thinking of restocking my 55 gallon tank with fish. I want to get 10 tiger barbs for the mid to top area. What would go with them for mid to bottom area. I am thinking of schooling type fish but it does not have to be. The tank is set up with artificial plants, good current, one internal filter, one HOB, one canister filter, temp 82*, ph 6.8-7.0, I have one algae eater, and a gravel floor (NO UGF).
Any Ideas? TIA

some clown loaches? An orange and black theme tank..hehe

i wood say black tipp. but there to aggresive umm neons or guppys?

I will not do neons, even though they are 20 for $5 at the LFS, I have never had good luck with them. Will guppys be ok with the barbs?
I was looking at the clown loaches but they say they are prone to ich. What are the thoughts on that?
Longtime when you say black tetras are you talking about the black skirt? They are cool fish but are hit or miss at the LFS.

i wouldn't suggest guppies with tiger barbs even in a big tank like that i mean it might work but the chances are slim. i have three clown loaches and non of them have ick but i am not shure ifd they are prone to it but i would suggest them

How big is your tank, I see they can grow up to 11.8" (but they have a 50 year life span). They are recomended in groups of 6 for schooling, but they say they will also school with barbs... How do three of them act?

3 loaches in a 55 would be fine...I've had loaches in a 55 with no problems...when i get new ones, I use aquarisol at half strength as a preventative for ich every other day for about a week or so......and neons and guppies would be toast with the barbs...

loaches would be good... clown loaches don't grow that quick... no problem getting a few small ones for your 55gal.
guppies or neons along with tiger barbs? i think the tiger barbs would really stress them out... might not work.. might kill them eventually. especially if u have a pack of 'em!
55gal is a huge space... enough to think bout some bigger fish... probably reaching 4-5 inches... u've got a really huge variety of options to choose from on this site alone...

Well I think I am going to take a look for some clown loaches. I can't remember seeing any at the LFS, but can't say I was looking. I will probably get a gourami again to be a center piece. Anthonylam I want to have a lot of activity, my son likes to sit infront of the tank and watch the fish (or at least he did untill the great death :rant2: ) If I can not find them then I will probably go for the black skirts (which are hit or miss at the LFS) or danios as a last resort
