Fish ideas

i think if u have 10 tiger barbs in there... it severely limits your options to choose other small active fish like guppies or neons... maybe a barb tank.. have other small barbs in there like rosy barbs if u think that u have to get tiger barbs...
otherwise, rainbow fish would be nice... along with guppies and neons...
loaches are active too

gouramies would be good if u didn't have tiger barbs... they're real fin-nippers...(the tiger barbs)
all sorts of gouramies are nice.. except kissing gouramies and giant ones of corz

if you get loaches, definitely QT them. they may look okay in the store, but i've heard a lot of people say that they all get ick in the beginning. they're just prone to it for some reason

I would skip the clowns, they can grow slowly, but I've only had mine for a month or so and they have definately grown. Plus, they need larger than a 55g tank, what will you do with them long term? You have lots of choices with a tank that size, I strongly recommend just sticking with appropriate sized fish that can happily live their whole life in your tank!!!! I would avoid any slow moving/long finned fish with the barbs, they will very likely get picked on. You could get a rainbow or redtailed shark (both are black and red/orangish) and either should be able to hold its own with the barbs. Serpae tetras are orange, might go well, another school of barbs would be nice, and even corys for the bottom should not have much trouble with the barbs, provided some hiding spots. If you just like the look of loaches, there are several that would be suitable in size for your tank long term

The problem with Tiger Barbs is their nippiness limits their tankmates. I would stay away from the gouramis and the guppies. Best tankkmates I have found for tiger barbs are other barbs and danios. A red tail shark might make be nice. The fish I have my eye on on now is a roseline shark I think that would work with the tigers as well. Some pictus cats are another possibility for bottom dwellers.
