With all of the fish ID threads around, I decided to start my own... but of course with the usualy idiotic twist that says Harlock.

So, what kind of return policies do you have from your LFS(s)? Wal-Mart is pretty cool here. No questions asked, no water sample needed and 90 days from date of purchase for cash refund of exchange. The other true LFS in my area that I like has something like 3-14 days, depending on the fish with water sample. Neither one bothers me too much. I do wish returns were at least 30 days and required a water sample. It would be a good way to teach people who otherwise would never learn about a cycle to test their water. Exchanegs are fine, or refunds for store credit by me, because I'll use it and understand smaller businesses may have already spent my money. I wish 30 days because that is really the minimum quarantine time I would use.

So, what kind of policy and compensation does your LFS offer?

The local walmart here gives you 48 hours no water sample required. The LFS doesn't take returns for any reason. If the fish dies the same day they will replace it. Otherwise your LOSS.

My LFS (B&B Pets) gives 14 days with 1/2 price credit and a requires a water sample, they do not adjust +/- credit due to water sample just try to help rectify your problems.

Petsmart, gives 14 days with full credit/exchange, no questions, no water sample necessary, but will test if you bring one in and ask.

Pet Supplies Plus, gives 7 days, full credit exchange and requires a water sample, they do not adjust +/- credit due to water sample just try to help rectify your problems.

Wal-Mart gives 14 days and full credit, no questions, no water sample needed.

The Petsmart closest to me gives a 14 day guarantee if you bring back a seperate water sample. Petco is the same.

Animals and Things has a 48 hour guarantee, which sucks imho, but they have a better selection than the chain stores.

The Pet Shanty has a 24 hour guarantee, which sucks even more, but I still find them to be the best LFS within an hour of me (and there are at least 6 other places to buy fish closer). I patronize them for their knowledgable employees, generally healthy fish, and hard-to-find specimens. They also give price-breaks on schooling fish, which is a great idea, imo.

The petland by me has is 30 days no water sample necessary, and they'll give you store credit. Luckily there's this one guy who works in the fish section and he seems quite knowledgable and is very helpful, and when we took our fish back to him he asked us about what was going on and gave us advice and stuff.
