Fish keep dying

no problem, happy to help :)

and i commonly double dose (and sometimes a tad more) on the Prime. my tap water will often smell like a dang swimming pool with all the chloramine they dump in here, ugh. better to be safe than sorry when it comes to my finkids!

The folks have got you on the right track with the 50% water changes as often as needed. You can actually change 100% and not loose your cycle bacteria, but that can be a bit stressful for the fish. And in this case you want a low level of ammonia left in the tank, so the cycle can start.

Just keep it low, so it doesn't harm the fish.

IMO, it is much more difficult to keep fish with .25 ammonia in the tap water! I would call the water company and see what they say about that. Are you sure you are testing correctly?
Otherwise, you are getting good advice and keep up the daily wc. We have all had to learn about proper cycling.

I'm doing 50-60% water changes and vacuuming everyday and the ammonia level is holding steady at 0.25. PH is holding steady at 7.8, and there is no sign of nitrites or nitrates yet. I'm double dosing on the prime to keep the fish safe during the cycle. The fish are all very active and they sure are hungry little buggers.

what you're doing sounds perfect. as long as the Prime is being re-dosed every day then i wouldn't worry about the 0.25 ammonia personally.

a capful of Prime will treat 50 gallons so i think 'almost a cap full' is more than what you need. half a cap would be more than enough (half cap treats 25 gallons) for a 10 gallon tank.

Well, I'm just over two weeks since I filled my tank and added fish. The replacement fish are doing great and I've had them for a week now. I'm testing the water everyday and doing 50-60% changes daily along with a dose of prime everyday. All my levels are holding steady: PH = 7.8PPM, Ammonia = 0.25, and 0 nitrites and nitrates. Water temperature is a steady 77 degrees with my current heater setting. Do these test results sound normal? When will I begin to get Nitrite levels? I did change to a Marineland power filter at the same time I added the replacement fish so I'm wondering if that set me back any on my cycle.
