Fish Keep Dying

I may have missed it but did you ever answer if you tank was cycled when you added the guppies??? If it wasn't, that could be the cause and I don't know that any medication will help. If it was cycled, I agree that you should only treat the ill fish, not necessarily the entire tank if no one else is ill.

As for the filter, you need to take the charcoal out if you put medicine in or else the medicine won't work. When I change my filter pad every few months I put a new one in on top of the old one first for a week or two then take the old one out. I am not familiar with your type of filter to know if this is an option for you. The bacteria in the substrate and on your plants and decorations will help, too. Good luck :)

treat the entire tank...

This sounds exactly like what i went through with my first set of guppies.... ALL died except one female... White stuff on body... dying suddenly... it was scary... treat the whole tank... I would do half primafix and half melafix, in both tanks, keep him seperated, the babies will probably not have it... just keep them out of the tank... as a last resort i used Meth Blue (which did not kill my mystery snail to my surprise). Then i ended up moveing the last female and snail and pleco to a larger tank, empty the other one, cleaned it with lime away (it does not leave a chemical residue if cleaned throughly), and filled it back up... Now i have toooooooo many guppies... Also, if any survive i would not get more from a pet store, i would find a local hobbist and see if they would let you get one cheap, to mate. The stores sell ones that have inbred MULTIPLE times... Also, the female who died might have died from something else/ sometimes when they have given brith many many times they can die. It is hard on them

Sorry for the long post but this sounds just what i went through when i started less than a year ago and now things are perfect.

Blue Died

Yes the tank was cycled.

Well The Blue Guppy Died, I guess I medicated too late. I was medicating him in one of those tiny tanks so I could not measure dosage properly but just put a few drops in as an estimate...By the end of the day today the infection had spread all the way from tail to gills and he could no longer breath, eating yesterday, dead today.

None of the other fish show any signs of infection so I did not dose the main tank again today. Even the 7 fry I saved have been sharing the same water the whole time. I got them a 3 gallon eclipse tank today, and split the water again from the main tank. I did NOT cycle this tank, but hey, it can't be any worse than the container they were living in the past 2 weeks (no filter at all or airstone)..And they are just fry

I think it was bacterial infection. From what the guy at the LFS said anyways.

I will Keep an eye and if any fish seem stressed I will treat the entire tank! He did show warning signs... I just could not figure out what was wrong...

I wish I had read this before getting the new tank I would not have used the same water, I'll just keep an eye on things and see how it goes.
