fish kill preminition

I hadn't seen the O2 reducing problem mentioned before so that was new to me. Given this, it seems like the possible or likely overdose of Excel combined with the dechlor (BTW... which product do you use and did you overdose it also? I know most people seem to.)

I use Prime as my declor. I used approximately 10ml during the water change. Prime instructs 5ml for 50 gallons so this is 2X the dosage based on the new water only; certainly not an OD though based on total tank volume of ~150 gallons of H20 (165G tank). I've seen conflicting arguments for dosing for just the new H2O vs. total volume...I tend to split the difference (and always have).

Assuming the combined reducing properties of the excel and prime were the cause, I can throw another variable into the mix in that I also dosed 10ml of flourish plant supplement; certainly within the range of recomended dosage (5ml per 60G 1 or 2X/week).

You may want to start a thread on the planted tank forum and add a link to this thread. Of course, they may already have this discussion already.

Yup, all over this, posting in the plants section

sorry to hear about the loss of your fish, for everyone thgat had expiernce this. I gotten in the habit in the morning I turn on half of the tank lights and keep the other half dark to add flourish excel in the tank. This way all the fish is in the half that is lit up looking for their daily meal on that side.

Knock on wood I haven't had any fish kill yet from excel.
