Fish massacre

So I've posted a thread before about stocking my 55 gallon tank and last wednesday I decided to start. I decided I'd add 2 oto's and 3 guppies to start out with then go from there. I added them wendesday and on friday I went out of town for the weekend. I left my sister in charge of feeding them and turning the light on and off. When I returned Sunday afternoon I was surprised to find a good portion of my tank had died. I talked to my sister and she did feed them, but even then idk if that could have anything to do with it. I'm also doubting disease since not everything was wiped out and it happened in a course of only 48 hours. I checked the water and everything was good.

I can't think of what it could be, but I figure I'll ask these questions even though they seem stupid, anyway I'm basically wondering since nothing like this has ever happened to me::duh:

1) could over feeding over that period of time do this?
2) could under feeding over that period of time do this?
3) Is there a disease that could wipe out only part of the tank in 48 hrs then disappear?
4) WTF killed my fish?

what I lost was:
3 fancy guppies
3 glofish
1 zebra danio
1 peppered cory
3 kuhli loachs
2 skunk cory

oviously thats a huge die off but I still have 6 cories, 4 danios and all my shrimp left and acting healthy. Everything was healthy when I left aswell.

I'd really like to figure this out soon because I don't want to add anything else when theres a risk of this happening again. :huh:

do a major water change and i think she mighta over fed ur fish. what size tank? and what are the filterations and the parameters of the tank?

I already did a water change. The tanks a 55 gallon with a bio-wheel filter. It's been established for a while now.

Nitrates: 15ppm
Nitrites: 0
Soft Water
Chlorine: 0
7 pH
79 degree

She may have had something on her skin. Soap or hand lotion and perfume comes to mind.
Hope you can figure it out.

If she overfed your tank and it caused the deaths then you should have seen an ammonia spike. I do not see the results of your ammonia test in your post.

exactly how long has it been established? ammonia reading is needed.

It's been established for a few months now. ammonia is 0 aswell. I don't think its overfeeding, I just wasn't ruling it out.

Are you using a liquid test kit?

Rule out #2, fish can go a few weeks w/o food. A couple days is nothing unless they were already starved.

There are 3 major periods where sudden fish death is most reported, after a water change due to shock, when new introduced fish die from shock, when someone baby sits your fish.

If you are sure your sister did nothing then it is probubly shock or introduction from the new fish somehow. Your the only one who knows if you correctly acclimated them or introduced contaminated water. I know it can take anywhere from 24 hours to 7 days for a fish to be impacted by shock.

I know my sister killed my mothers Koi when she sited the fish by pouring in the entire box of food to make feeding more convenient, but she admitted that otherwise no one would have known.

I recently had a large die off in my tank aswell. Well as large as you can get in a 10 gallon. I lost atleast 6 baby platys and 1 of my 2 corys that I had in there. I noticed when I got home from work that day since I didn't feed or turn their light on before I left because I was running late. I checked my params and they were fine but I still did a large water change... I honestly have no clue what the heck happened.
