ok, that was a stupid title, but can anyone tell me if it is still illegal to purchase/own a snakehead? i am looking for a large predatory fish to keep in a single specimen tank. the red snakehead is by far the most intresting and aesthetically pleasing to me. if (most likely) they are still illegal, can anyone suggest an alternate fish. as far as housing, it would have 240 gal. all to itself.

They aren't federally illegal, all depends on the laws of the state you live in. Some states it is, some discourage it, and some its illegal.
if the snakehead is illegal in your area i would suggest a bowfin or a longnose garfish; though neither of them are as aggressive as a snakehead; they are still equally interesting fish.
