Fish poop settling to bottom

Floating Poo

Oh Yeah, I had a Question too.
What's up with the floating poop? The kind that stays around the rim of the water at the edges of the tank. I know it can tell you all kinds of things.
Thanks,
Sue

i don't use a gravel vaccum because it takes out too much water. if i'm doing a vac and water change, i use 1/2 inch tubing, if i'm just doing a quick vac, i use airline tubing. takes a steady hand, but it's much easier.

Wow, how do you get the suction of the water started with only airline tubing?

just cover one end and fill it up from the sink so there's no air in it. only takes a second. with the half inch tubing, i've taken the end cap (screen) off of the faucet, so it fits right in and i can fill my buckets with no waste or splashing.

I recently purchased a battery operated gravel vac and it has a vacuum cup attachment with a fine mesh bag so you can vac without removing any water.

How do you like this thing? I thought it looked good for some maintenance in between water changes, but I've heard very mixed reviews on the performance.

yeah. i should get a python too, but i'm cheap.
actually, i have an old breeder net that i use for various fishy things, and a few times i've vaccumed with that rubber-banded on the outflow end of the tubing so i could just put the water back in. it worked very well as far as catching all the mess, but all my water has driftwood tint, and i feel better putting in new water anyway.

It's great for cleaning in between water changes! I haven't had any trouble with it at all. I love it and it's the only thing I use. I bought it because I had just a regular vac that you pump up and down to get it started (I didn't realize I could just fill it and the tubing with water and get it started that way...) and I had trouble with that because I have arthritis in my hands so anything to make life with arthritis easier is great in my book!
