Fish Species

Must say Im not a big gourami fan! After having dawarf, kissing and blue/three spot I find them to be attractive yet boring! they tend to spend a lot of the time motionlessly hovering in the tank. Although My three spot is the first fish I have ever had to take back as he killed he partner that I bought with him and relentlessly chased my kissing gouramis till I seperated him. He would not tollerate any other type of gourami. Same with my dawarfs, one established himself as boss and bullied all the rest.
It all depends if your looking for pretty or personallity.
I agree that catfish are a nice addition to any tank and for personality you cant beat Cichlids, you could easily have some dawarf cichlids such as rams or kribs both very beautifull fish!

As for Ich, normally down to eith either stress or poor water conditions. Be sure to check any purchases at the store for any sign before buying and when you introduce them to your tank dont add the whole bag of water, empty the bag over a net and just add the fish, that way you are less likely to pass on any disease from the store. To make the move less stressfull for the fish make sure you dont by to many at once and give them a good couple of hours without the light on so they can settle without the glare!
At the first sign of ich increase your temperature this limits the life of the tomides once they become free swimming.
Also have you checked that your filter is working properly, and be sure to treat the water for chlorine etc when doing water changes!
Hope you sort the problem out!

Thanks everyone for all your advice-I dont know what I would do without this forum!! My aquarium at the moment is a "ghost tank" lol I used the salt and raised temperature method to kill off all the ich parasites, and by this friday Ill be 100% all the lil buggers are gone-then its MAJOR CLEANUP time b4 adding any fish, and Ill control my eagerness and take it slow lol. My LFS thats reputable doesn't have much selection in gourami-I saw another one which had some sparkling and dwarf but on closer inspection all the tanks were poorly maintained so I left immedietly. I have also been looking into cichlids (lol check the cichlid forum), lol but thats what I love about this hobby-so many options!!!!
