Fish tank to water bill ratio

when i lived in a house with 3 55 gallons, our water bill was never more than $20 a month.

however, different parts of the country have different water prices, and during a drought (which we never have here) the prices could easily skyrocket. i know theres a city just a 2 hour drive from here who's water bill is ridiculous and would probably make anyone think twice about adding a fishtank.

You can always take navy showers if you need to make up for the water you use on your fish tank.

I have about about 200g worth of tanks that get at least a 50% water change once (or more) a week. Since we are on water restrictions in TX now, I think our usage stays pretty consistent. (since we can't water the lawn) I've noticed a rise in my water bill of about 1 dollar.

Depends on how much you use.

I visited A guy in my city who has some of the worlds greatest Discus. He breeds and does 100% water changes a day and uses around 1500 - 2000 gallons a day.

But, dam you should see his fish. Made all my Discus look like crap and they are real healthy.

I do 75-100% water changes on my discus tank 2x a week. I currently have 5 tanks but none of which are large, the largest being 45g.
Sounds like I don't have much to worry about.
I do on the other hand have a crap load of lights which I'm sure will effect the electricity. I have a total of 829 watts of light between all my tanks. I'm not going to keep that many tanks running in my new house but I will be running my 442w light over my 120g and once all the grass and foreground plants are grown in I will turn the co2 down cut off the ferts and run only 1 of the 2 96w lights just to keep the plants alive. As far as my other tanks go I'm not sure what I'm going to do.

Water restriction? It has rained for the last 3 monthes in central, and east Texas. Where are you?

I do a 800 gallon w/c on my pond every week and a half to 2 weeks. My bill is about 5 bucks more a month than when I didn't have my pond.

:)

Our water meter is hooked up backwards. Seriously.... It doesn't spin. Meter reads 000000. We've been in the house 3 years, and only pay roughly $5.75 for the access fees on the water bill.

Here's the kicker..... They know about it. There was a guy out here six months ago from the water board, and told me it was installed wrong (by them) and that a crew woould be out to swap.... never happened.

That said, it is just my wife and I here , and we don't use water for the sake of it just because the meter is not counting anything.

I would get 4 75 gallon tanks if I were you.
