Fish that eats algae

Very entertaining fish, or loaches, those sewellia lineolata. Good luck with those.

i have tried snails but i guess i need alot of them. my 55 gallon has more algae then my 36. I guess thats because my heater is on in my 55. i am thinking i am going to get sewellia lineolata hillstream loaches. i saw in an other post and look really cool.
not a good idea. read up on the needs of hillstream loaches. they enjoy a VERY high flow current (natural habitat is fast moving streams)

Otocinclus catfish or nerite snails have both worked well for me. Otos would not be a good choice for a tank full of aggressive cichlids.

I don't have any algae problems unless I over fertilize, forget to reload the CO2 or leave the shade off of the rooms skylight, all things previously addressed. Test for nitrate and maybe phosphate accumulation. The nerites, SAE's, ottos & BNP's are great in just about any tank but adding critters doesn't cure the disease, just the symptom.

Just a side note on sewellia lineolata. Yes, according to most sources, they do enjoy a high flow rate. Is this the only way you can keep them ? I would say, no. I keep them in my 46BF and the only flow they get is from my 2 filters, the AC 70, and the Emperor 400. Neither one of these provides a great "flow rate". Sources also say they like cooler temps. While this may also be true, I keep mine at 80° and they are happy. How do I know they are happy, you ask? Well, they have spawned for me under these less than ideal conditions, at least once, and I suspect, twice. I say give it a shot, if that's what you want. Good luck.

snails and other algae eaters will help, but not clean the glass completely. They'll leave "trails" through the algae. They are great at helping to control algae, but will never eliminate it.

i went to walmart and i purchased a network catfish to eat the food that falls to the bottom. i can find no place that sells the loaces
