Fish that you hate the most

I am not fond of oscars. They scared me when I was little because my dad really liked them and I thought they were ugly.

Love the goldies though. I do have to agree with the deformed strains though, they just aren't for me.

Love the sinner hate the sin I always say, or in this case love the fish, hate the incredibly selfish things people do to them.

My initial response was oscars. but I really don't hate them, I just hate what people do to them. Mainly keeping them in too small of a tank so they get all deformed and ugly. Its the same reason why I respond with Green Iguanas whenever I am asked about my least favorite reptile.

I used to think goldfish were nothing but I have come to appreciate a really nice specimen.

Same with any big fish. If it gets over 6 inches chances are I would never have one. Again, mainly because in my opinion very few people have big enough tanks for those fish to look good in. One of the nicest looking fish I had ever seen however was a Midas cichlid someone had brought to me because they were moving and couldn't keep the tank. The fish was about 12 inches long and had the nicest fins I had ever seen. A truly beautiful fish. They had it all alone in a 125 gallon tank and it was about 10 years old. The perfect example of a fish I hate but a specimen I thought was gorgeous.

I don't have time for any hybrids although I realize that mollies and angelfish are most likely very heavily hybridized, or at least were years ago so in that respect it makes me kind of a hypocrite. I don't like dyed, tattooed or altered fish in any way shape or form. I told a friend of mine that if he ever bought one of the tattoed parrot fish we saw in a pet shop once he would not be welcome in mine. Of course I was kidding but only just a little. Fish bred by selective breeding are a little different. For the most part I am more fond of the wild type fish but I realize that few which have been captive propogated over many years actually resemble anything from the wild. Even some of the peacocks I have that are very stunningly colored I doubt would ever appear in the wild looking like they do. Albinos and long fins fit this category as well, as do all the goldfish shape mutations.

So, I guess in short, there is no fish that I hate its just the incredibly stupid things people do to them that I take out on the fish.

I don't like the idea of keeping any fish with the "balloon" morph. I will buy fish that have been selectively bred only for their colors, not for their "enhanced" body shapes. I certainly don't criticize others for considering curved spines and bloated bodies to be attractive though, as everyone is entitled to their own definitions of beauty.

I dislike chinese algae eaters only for their general, nuisance presence in community aquariums.

I also don't care for many of the african cichlids commonly sold in big chain stores.

I don't like any dyed fish, Fancy Goldfish, Guppies, Blood Parrots, and most long-finned/veiltailed varieties of fish with the exception of Bettas.

Well, I've learned never to say never. The more I learn about different species, the more I appreciate them, no matter how plain, troublesome, or ugly they are. There's always something sweet, entertaining, or fascinating that's unique to each particular fish.

Being around some kind of fish you thought you wouldn't like (for whatever reason) has a way of changing your mind. That's how it's always been in my case, anyway. Our lack of appreciation, is usually more a lack of exposure.

When I was young, I didn't like the idea of feeding one fish to another. I already knew how tender-hearted I was and didn't think I could handle that. Conceptually, yes that's how the food chain works - but figured having to see it would upset me.

Then I was exposed to saltwater fish who were fed live goldfish every day. Turned out that watching the small fish get eaten didn't phase me at all. What bothered me more, actually, was seeing a freshwater fish be dropped into salt water. Knowing how much it must suffer from hostile water conditions for as long as it took another fish to kill it.

I grew up around peaceful freshwater community fish.. so I didn't have much use for cichlids. What I had seen seemed boring and drab. I've since had to revise that impression, too. They're not boring at all.

There really is something to admire and appreciate about all types of fish. It's just a matter of getting to know them in the right setting.
So true that. I've kept a few strains of goldfish and it so happens bubble-eyes are admittedly the biggest issue for me. I had to be very careful when moving them to other tanks due to the delicate eye sacs and avoid my choice of decorations for their sake. I dunno...I just feel somehow that particular strain is not something I've enjoyed keeping so far.

I dislike any fish that man has manipulated - i.e. goldfish strains, flowerhorns, parrot fish, glow or painted fish, fish that man has maimed or artificially colored. I also have a serious dislike for any eel-like or snake-like fish. If it ain't found in the wild that way, I don't like it.

Essentially all tank bred specimens have been selectively bred.... but I understand your point as it related more to general appearance.

Hate is a strong word, but I'd say I dislike carp/goldfish.
