Fish to Swims out in the Open

Hard to believe those fish aren't ever out in the open. Whats your set-up like?

The main problem I'm having is with my hogfish. The other fish end up swimming out in the open quite a bit. I think my wife just didn't want to get another fish that hides in the rocks all the time.

Cardinals are always out in the open to the point of boredom.
For cheap affective color i would of thought you couldn't beat the chromis in a small tank in a small sholl.

I'm still siding with the Royal Gramma but I think clownfish or a couple of cardinals (PJs or Kaudern's) would do the trick as well.

I love my Royal Gramma too, trouble is he loves the rockwork, but i agree a great fish, top color and feisty temperament.
Mine can see off my Hamlet by doing a big yarn/underwater growl no probs.

why not add a red hawkfish? Mine swims around all day. OR you can try a velvet damsel or any damsel really. they swim around constantly till the lights go out.

Do you have a cleaner shrimp? They provide some good action and don't contribute to your bio-load.

:headbang2:  well said SHK ATK hawkfish are fantastic fish.
Go for flame, blood red of longnose all full of character but quite a bit aggressive towards most crustaceans.
They have no swim bladder so sit mostly in full view "hopping" from one rock/coral to another.

Really? They have no swim bladder? That's pretty interesting.

Cleaner shrimp and clownfish, these are the 2 best things I have put in my tank (okay besides my diamond goby who everyone seems to love). Cleaner shrimp are pretty funny to watch, they go crazy during feeding time and will hang out on the rock work, even ride around on a tang (Mine love to pick on the yellow tang). Clowns are generally out, especially the false perculas. I have 2 and they swim all over the place together, again avoiding rockwork. They sleep in the back right corner, same place they picked in the old tank too. They are fun in pairs. My original one was a bit shy until I introduced the 2nd (same with the shrimp), and now they are out and about all the time.
