We're moving to a new home, This place is kick butt and most of all concrete floors, (he he he I get to make a bigger tank..) anyways during the move my tank will eventually have to come apart... what My question is how do I transport them, I have a huge tupperware container that I can put them in and I can keep my pumps and airstone in there while they are being moved via an Inverter for the car. Is this safe? I have a fully stocked 55 Gal tank gourami mollie Knife(s)Rainbows (madagaskin and auatrailian (sp)) and alot of live plants (see pictures in 99% water change my topic listed in my profile) What do you suggest? It may be 2-4 days before the tank is back up and on it's new stand, can they stay in the box for that long? (40 gallon box) let me know what you think.

How long is your drive from your old house to your new one? If it is only a couple of hours, get some bags from your lfs and put them in there. There would be less water splashing and therefore stress the fish out less, I believe. If it is longer hopefully someone will have a better idea of what to do.

I have successfully kept dime/nickel sized fry in a 40 gal Rubbermaid tub with sponge filter/powerhead for a week without problems. If I was in your place I would go for it.

Good luck with your move!!!

it's about 5-8 miles, I dont have big enuf baggies for some of my fish...

If it's less than a 10 mile move you should be golden. Break down the tank at the last moment and put it on the moving truck last. Then it's the first to come off the truck. It only takes an hour or two to reset your tank.

I just did this 2 months ago with a 180g, 55g, 10g, and 5g. It's easier than you think it will be.

Seems like a pain. I have to move 3 tanks right now, a 10, 55, 200 Gal tank... We're not doing the moving van thing..We're doing it the old fashiond way....3 trucks and an SUV :)

How much time have you invested in your current tanks?

Is it worth losing all your fish, you bio filter, and starting over?

I think not.

i am not taking apart the filters, they will be running in the box with them to keep up the bacteria! I hope not to loose any of my fish in the move.

If you can't fit your fish into baggies, you may want to set up baffles in the 40g container. Two would be sufficient I think. Make them out of stiff plastic to the width of the container, but make them about 2 inches too short. That way, they baffle the water at the top, but there's 2 inches of clearance at the bottom so that filtered water can get under the baffles via agitation or convection. Tape would probably work to hold the baffles in place for the distance you'll be traveling.

Hope that helps.

Danka, I will do that, Some of my fish are small enough but my knife is way too big and some of my plecs are too big too, Thanks for the baffle Idear
