fish with a distended anal ? picture

I'm sorry, I don't know what this is but if you are going to isolate her and fast her then perhaps increasing the temp a bit will speed up her digestion. Make sure she has plants to shelter in to prevent drastic stress increases that may interfere with recovery.
Good luck!

Good luck and hope she gets better soon.

P.S. I have a male platy that looks exactly like your female (without the big belly) and he is bigger than all the rest. Are they the same breed and thats why they are larger than the other platys?

Good luck and hope she gets better soon.

anyone else ?? Im worried for this sweet fish

I'm worried for her, too.

A couple of months ago, I noticed the same thing with one of my goldfish. I still don't know what caused this or how serious it may be. Or what I can do about it... or if it's a permanent condition... I can't even be sure how long it's been like this. I never specifically noticed the fish's vent opening before to say whether it's a new-ish development or if she's been like that for a long time. I tried doing some online research, but didn't find anything out.

With my fish, the protruding tissue is much smaller and it's not all pinkish/red like yours is the photo. Otherwise, my fish is healthy, very active, eats and poops normally. I can find no indication whatsoever that she feels any discomfort at all.

I'm hoping someone with a little more expertise about this will respond to your thread, so we'll both find out what's going on and what we should do about it.. if there's anything we can do to help.

Is your fish still swimming around normal, like she always has? Or does she behave differently? Does she still poop like before? Any sign of distress?

I had a female guppy do that right after birthing babies. I isolated her and turned the temp up to 82-84 and fed only 1 a day fresh veggies and it cleared up and shrunk back up in her. I kept her isolated for about 2 weeks.

Good Luck Karla with your baby.
thanks hon, I will go look for babies, I will also be putting her in her own tank today. I have one all set up with other small fish, but they can now go into the big tank and her be on her own.

I did isolate her and was not sure she would live. she is doing great today and swimming around again. I put her in a tank wioth salt, she has a white spot on her tail that looked like ich. not sure how she got it, but thinking she was sick so she was susceptable to it. No feedings for a day, today I gave her spirolina flakes and she is as happy as a lark. only added 10 tsp of salt to this 10 gallon tank, qill see if more needs to be added. oh her anal is not as swollen
thanks all for your help.

she is doing great, I noticed her anal protrusion is gone and she is swimming freely. not sure what the white dot is on her tail so Im keeping her in the quarantine tank until thats cleared up. I have new babies in the 29 gallon tank, they look like black molly babies but none of my mollys looked pregnant. Since she is mostly black, could these be her babys? I did not think she could get pregnant, she is so much bigger then the other mollys. like a super molly. I believe she must be a tuxedo. any ways I saw about 10 babies in the comunity tank. could they be heres since she does have red on her to. these are all black, and one is clear. ( white)

OMG!!! I so glad she's OK! I was really worried that this would not get better. You are a great fish mommy! And, it does sound like she is a fish mommy, too, lol.
