Fishermen Catch, Eat Rare Shark

Well, it did die in the nets.....and they are fisherman after all trying to make a living.
 
What purpose did the "WWF" serve in trying to get them to not eat the already dead shark? At least it was put to good use, feeding hungry mouths.
 
Fact that it's even there means that ecosystem is still healthy enough to support it. They probably wanted to study the remains, once thought to be extinct shark and all.
 
If it was already dead, why not eat it?
I wouldn't, not eat it just because some scientist wants to dissect it or just let it float in the ocean.
Dang, how many people can say they've eaten megamouth?

Amen. I'm glad people here aren't as out of whack as some I've heard...I'm all for science, but we take for granted that everyone should be willing to donate everything to science. In all honesty, though, if you're dealing with people who literally NEED what you want, a little bit of quid pro quo would go a long way. And, heavens above, I would have donated some money to the WWF if they'd taken that proactive of a stance as to offer them more than what the shark was worth as a foodstuff--either an equal or greater amount of fish, or a lot of fish and some badly needed supplies, or something along those lines would have made me want to help the effort.
 
I can believe that some self-serving politico trying to climb a ladder would be the only ones to tell them they can't have it for food. As I said in OP, I don't think they targeted it, I think it was an unfortunate catch. I agree to offer them more food value than the worth of the catch would be both honorable and moral than to tell them they can't eat it. Around here we have slot limits and if you catch/bag outside those limits you have to release it even if it means it is going to die! The same applies to any endangered species you accidentally get. It's either release it to a miserable death or get arrested. I guess some people have to urinate on an electric fence to get any excitement when common sense tells you not to.
 
its sad how people handled the situation, instead of losing the shark a small sum of money could have been paid to keep it...
