I need to know once and for all, what is the deal with flake and pellet fish food. It seems cheap and convenient, but can it be harmful. The internet seems to thinks it's fine, but I suspect they are trying to sell it to me. My LFS doesn't like it. I ask this because, feeding frozen foods irrates me. I want to know if it works and is heathy for the fish and mini-ecosystem.

I used spectrum pellets and flake for a couple of years and the fish did well. But I noticed a big change in colors after going to a mix of frozen and pellets. For some fish I think that dry foods will sustain them but for many I believe a combination is required. IMO

flake and pellet are great but some fish will not touch it(mine) so frozen is the only way

Purely out of convenience I feed pellets in the morning and frozen in the evenings. My fish love the pellets especially my Yellow Tang who searches the tank for leftovers.
Don't know where you're from but I use pellets from Dragon Feeds (www.dragonfeeds.com) which is a UK company recommended by a friend. Contains freshly cultured poychaete worms (apparently!).

Personally dried foods and frozen foods are a world of differnce. I have fish that wont touch dried foods. I go through alot of frozen mysis my fish go nuts for it... and my roommate who always feeds his fish dried, are alot more agressive towards the frozen..

Im starting to mix up the foods though get some veriety in the food they eat...

I feed mine a mixture of Formula 1 and 2 frozen and flaked food, some pellet food from Hikari , well as shrimp and mysis. I wish they didn't discover how tasty mysis is because they pick it off my sun coral now.
