How long between ammonia being 0 and nitrites being 0? Tank's been cycling for about 4 weeks (75 gal). Ammonia's been 0 for 3+ days but the nitrites been at 2 for a while. Nitrates are high too.
mine took about a week but, I had lots of live rock/sand. I really didn't even notice an amonia spike though so... I think the rock/sand really speeds up the process.

I really don't think it is best to cycle with fish. People that due cye with fish use damsels but this method does harm the fish when it is not needed. Just throw in a couple of cocktail shrimp and wait. When Ammonia and Nitrites are ) your good to go.
And fishman, i dont think you will find anyone else on these boards that would commend or recomend the use of fish to cycle a tank and in my book, any LFS that does, are way back in the dark ages in their way of thinking and would NOT get a penny of my money.
WOW! you guys are pretty hard core. A friend of mine told me to use green cromis to cycle my tank so I did. It didn't seem to hurt them any. they seemed to very happy and in very good heath until i took them out to put in them in a 240 gal tank, the above mentioned friend set up at one of our fire stations, to help cycle it. 2 of the 4 i put in there are still doing very well as for the other two they got eaten by the 2 groupers he put in the tank, which sucks cuz they are cool fish. course as with all things people have different ways of doing things and should do whatever works for them.
