SF Bay area, CA
Hi guys, I'm back after more than a month of move chaos. I'm still not ready for fish yet, but I miss them a lot. My 120g is the only tank in the house only because my husband & I can't move it. It's meant to be a discus tank...eventually but I don't want to commit to all the work of raising them again right away.

So, I guess I'll probably set up a 55g near the computers first. I'm thinking of weather loaches & whiteclouds, I've wanted to try them for a long time. Both species were illegal in my old state of MA but not here in Cal ! Maybe a few other cool water fish but I tend to like fewer species in bigger groups these days. Any suggestions?

Or maybe a few sewellia & cherry shrimp in a 20g long...or replace some of the loaches I had to sell/give away (sniff) sids, striatas &/or histrionicas could work in a 55g...panda garras...so many possibilities but I want to take it slow.

I also need some lfs suggestions in the Bay area, I've heard of Albany Aquarium & Dolphin something south of here (WC).

Nice, how are you liking the Bay Area so far? There are a few lfs's I've heard good things about one being http://www.aquariumconceptsinc.com/ and the Albany Aquarium fish store.

WC as in Walnut Creek? I can't find any good LFS in northern Cali.....unless you like tetras and cichlids. I ended up ordering my fish and plants online.

The route I took was to get a 50G and put lots of nano fish in it. I have 64 fish and shrimp in my 50G tank and it looks empty until you get up close, and then it's like peering into a slice of a small stream somewhere.

Weather loaches all the way in the 55! I heard that they've since legalized the loaches, the WC's are still a no go though...

Good luck with the tanks!

Thanks for that link Juice, hope it's nicer than the site. I'm always a bit suspicious of lfs that have a loach category with corys & leporinus, lol. Not much in the way of fun activities yet unless you count looking for grocery stores & MIA household goods (vac parts, drill, etc) & a couple good restaurants. We did get a quick Sonoma wine trip in before closing on our house.

InJux, yes, Walnut Creek. I'm sorry you didn't find good lfs, I was hoping it'd be better here than the couple in MA, something along the lines of "Loaches R Us" within an hour's drive would be great.

Hey Steph, thanks! Tanks seem ok, the bigger 2 got TLC crating/uncrating by a special movers, glad we weren't paying for it.

Hey Cam! I'd seen dojos (quaker parakeets too) for sale in a couple lfs but that doesn't mean they're really legal but I don't know. I didn't have room or time for any more tanks then anyway.

Cool, you are in CA, you will love it hear except for the EQs often:) ur in SF right, so ADA aquarium has a beautiful shop right by u, i went there once as i im San Jose, CA, but i drive up there often, it was so worth it, amazing planted tanks, beautiful aquascapes, and great stock.AMAZING!

if u ever drop by here in SJ, then go to dolphin pet village in Campbell, great store!

a suggestion for cool FW CW fish would be hillstream loaches and barbs..........

Hey Fishboss, I think maybe it was from you I heard of Dolphin Pet. Not sure how far anything is from me yet but road trips can be fun.

Earthquakes! We had a small 1 in MA when we first moved there 10 yrs ago. Then, when I was relocating, I was in BWI airport when they had 1 last month. Hurricane the day my husband left, tsunami warnings when we were here in spring. Natural disasters, geez, it's always something! I admit to not worrying too much or too often, but thanks for the reminder, I'll probably wake up & worry tonight, lol.
