Hello everyone! I received a 10 gallon aquarium from a woman that I work with. It is glass and came with a UGF, air pump (whisper), lid (glass), strip light, a heater, gravel and some fake plants. I told her that I usually buy tanks for $1 gallon and that I'd give her $20 for the setup. She seemed "okay" with this, but I think she feels like she is getting ripped off. I work with her and don't want to cause a rift. What do you think a fair price would be? Thanks for the input!!!!! I value all of your opinions!

Well, $20 is about the going price for a used set up like that...I've paid less for more at a garage sale. If she is uncomfortable about the amount, she could have said no. You could offer to give the tank back, or, more strategically, you could say "gee, turns out I don't have the room/time for this tank after all" and give it back. You could also offer her more, but there is no reason to rip yourself off when she could have said no to your offer.

I think it's a fair deal for the tank and light fixture. Especially if they're in reasonably good condition. The rest I'd probably ditch. The fixture will only be good for a low light tank, though. But I've bought those at that size, new strip light fixture for $20-25 and $10 for a new 10 gal glass tank.

I think that it is a good deal on both of your parts. People in Las Vegas will rip you off for all that you're worth. I would probably get that much stuff for MAYBE $30 at a garage sale. Check around online and see what kinda prices the same thing are going for used.

Thanks for the input folks! I think I'll bump the payment to $25 and call it a day. A couple of extra bucks for peace and harmony at work is worth it!!! :p:

You can buy a brand new one with everthing for $35.00...I know Pet Club has sales every month in my area and they go for $35..And Wal-Mart should be about the same price for a complete 10 gallon..So you are paying an average price...

I would spend the $35 for a new one if you are thinking that way..Just 10 bucks more..

You can probably find a new AGA 10G in your area for $10, but since it came with a glass lid and strip light, i would say its an OK deal, since they are somewhat expensive if purchased new, IMO.

i would ditch the gravel but thats just to be on the safe side and depending on looks and color. in the end, its best to just ditch the UGF and get a power filter.

$25 seems to be a fair price though.

At a garage sale she'd be lucky to get $5. Ten gallon tanks are really common.
