then wait. i know from observation that hoplos move for about 5 seconds then pause for 2 or 3, so they're easy. the cories are normally quite still - the tetras i just press and hope, and the kribs i know like to "stalk" their food - darting nearer then stopping to assess... it comes from a lot of time watching them...
