Fixing a cracked aquarium

yeah, 100 bucks is alot for something thats guaranteed not to hold water as sold. I bought my 210 for 200 bucks on craigs list. Be patient, i'm sure you could find a better deal.

fair enough deal then, you could always fix the tank and use it as a terrarium or a cool indoor terrestrial planter too.

yes, that's what i was wondering as well. Anyone try this before?

by the way captain, an 18 tank fish room? The jealousy meter is reading 9.8!!!!!!!!!!!!

ha ha :grinyes: well it'll actually be a 24 tank fish room, including the 3 i'v already got set up inside, maby 25 as im trying to buy this 180G at the moment! :silly:

im soooooooooo excited, cant wait to get it all set up!

anyway enough of my bragging.. i still think you could patch over it, if anything wouldnt it be stronger!? or surely replacing just the bottom pane wouldnt be too expensive.

I had a 40g with a shattered bottom pane, the glass shop in town, measured and cut a piece to fit the bottom exactly, he siliconed it to the original broken pane and put silicone on all 4 sides of the new piece, it holds water, no leaks and cost 36 dollars plus taxes. Rather repair than discard.

I have repaired a fair few myself (no need to pay hourly wages for someone to do it for me)...but be aware, the glass for a 75 will be a fair bit more spendy, as it will be more thick and cost more per square foot. If you have someone do it for you, it will also take longer, as pulling the bottom out of a 75 will take more work.

any idea what kind of price tag we're talking about?

If someone else does it? Depends on where you go, but I would be very surprised if you are quoted under $100 anywhere, and would expect something in the $150 range. And since you can usually buy a new 75 with warranty for around $225....

Go garage saleing, I picked up a 100 gallon with no cracks and some slight reflective tarnish in the glass that won't ever come off for $10. $100 for a cracked 75 is insane, you could buy a brand new 75 in the box here at a fish store for about that.
