flame moss

My current flame moss is not as thick as I seen other pictures of it. Seems very thin such as my java moss, and I could tell it is flame moss seeing it grows straight up as it name intends ( like a candle).

How much wattage on a 10 gallon tank would be sufficient to grow it thick without any co2, but with flourish and the flourish iron supplement. It is a dual tank hood that supports two bulbs, so I would think 2x 25 watt bulbs?

I THINK, 25 watt bulb is the maximum :S.
 
Take what you have growing up and tie it down length wise. The moss will then send up more fronds making it thicker looking. Or you could buy more moss. Flame moss doesn't spread like other moss.

I'd take what is sticking up and tie it back down lengthwise. That is the only way you'll get it to thicken up. The more fronds there are laying down the more there are to grow upwards. Its kind of like a bent over tree ends up having more then 1 trunk reaching for the sky.

Either that or buy more.
 
Yes I have seen that as well when looking at flame moss and java moss side by side. So I was 100% sure how to differentiate the two.

So more light won't make it thick?

No because it grows up not out so it doesn't spread. The only other option is to cut the length you have so you can lay more down and make the base thicker leading to thicker growth.
 
So the only reason a lot of flame moss pictures on the web are thick is not from one row of flame moss, but layers upon layers?

Yes. When I attach mine I usually grab a bunch and lay it across whatever I'm using then tie it off. Basically I make a blanket of moss and tie it off.
 
Well that flame moss was in my 29 gallon, and to be honest I have no clue how much wattage it is. I do have some in my shrimp tank now which is a 10 gallon with either 15 or 25 watts.
