Hi,
I have a 72 gallon tank. I am relatively new to the freshwater aquarium hobby. I have 5 flame tetras. 1 is quite a bit larger then the others. I am not sure if it is pregnant or if it might have dropsey. Is there a way to tell? Does anyone know how long the gestation time for a flame tetra before it would lay the eggs or anything regarding the breeding process of flame tetras.
Thank you

The flame tetra is much larger than the other ones. I am guessing that it is either pregnant or just one fat fish. It is eating and swimming normally. I will keep an eye on it for a few more days but I think it is ok. Thank you.:)

No eggs yet. It is still larger than the others. There is one other that is close in size but not as big. Unfortunately I don't have a digital camera. I did think about the possibility of overfeeding. I have cut back the feeding in the tank considerably. I am only feeding the tank once a day now instead of twice. I have about 43+ fish in the tank. Others include 5 platies, 10 Danios (zebras & longfinned), 8 Gourami's(4 different types), 5 Lemon tetras, 4 Corydoras Julii, 5 Scissortail Rasboras, 2 small Plecostomus, 1 Khuli Loach, 3 neon tetras. I have had stable water and have made no adjustments other than cholorine/chloromine remover and plant fertilizer. I do have live plants. My temperature runs around 79. I am running 1 filter, an Aqua Clear 500. I tend to vary the food I feed between a mixed floating pellet and a herbivore floating pellet. Once or twice a month I give frozen brine shrimp. My pH is running around 7.6. I have had no ammonia, nitrate or nitrite problems. I guess I will have to wait & see. Does anyone know how long it will take for the eggs to be laid? If it does lay eggs will they be visible? They are very pretty together and tend to school with the lemon tetras. They are pretty mellow and get along well with the other fish. Thank you.
