hey,
i am goin to add some tums to my tank so my snails can get calcium and i was wondering can i use tums with a flavor? how many should i add and how often to my 20 gallon so my pH doesnt raise to fast?
thanks

they can have flavor, manny snails are picky and only prefer certian flavors!

I use berry flavored. I think the citrus ones are probably fine too, but I don't know about the mint ones.

I've tried the citrus ones...mine liked all the flavors actually LOL.

The active ingredient in anacids is calcium carbonate (CaCO3) so it will raise both GH and KH directly, but not by much. Do not worry about pH.

I would only add one at a time unless you have a lot of snails...they get a little messy.

Yep. One Tums at a time. Added two once and my water got slightly cloudy but I left it and it settled after a few hours. Never tried mint but my snails like all the flavored ones.

On another thread someone said something about mint oils possibly being harmfull...

... it sounded like they were "speculating" rather than stating facts so I don't know- but I do the berry ones personally after reading that other people claimed they were their snail's favourites.

Haven't tried any other flavours on them personally.

i don' tlike tums. I prefer calcium pills as I find both but tums moreso, foul the water.

Ms J. calcium pills are in the same general area as the tums in a local cvs/rite aide/eckerd/duane reade/pharmacy type convenience store?

At my local grocery store the calcium pills were in a medicine section, rather than the indegestion/heartburn section that the tums were. Not only that but the calcium pills were $13 as oppose to a couple of bucks for a big thing of tums
