OK, I have a couple of house dogs & now I have a flea problem.

Anyways, I wanted to set off a couple of foggers but I don't know what to do with my tanks. My one & ten gallon tanks can be moved from the house, But my 40 & 60 can't so my question is, is there anyway I can seal off the top of the tanks or something so the fumes don't get inside? Thanks

yeouch...that would want to be an airtight seal I would imagine. Something plastic with some heavy duty air-tight taping perhaps ?

How long does the effect of the foggers last for ?

I just used the vacuum powder as I was scared of killing off my tanks. I think we caught it early though. I did read about someone who decimated his fish population due to the flea bomb and he had a glass canopy with just a little opening, so be careful.

There is a way to make O2 with a container , some hydrogen peroxide, airline tubing and a lead weight....all connected to a sweetwater stone that can produce oxygen bubbles that can be injected into a sealed tank.

Provide some water movement and BAM....contained system(for a few days at least)

I had a similar problem some years back....

I think you have to stay out for 2 hours and then "vent" for another hour or so...can't remember....

But anyways....I lowered the temperature a bit (slowly) to the "lowest comfortable level" for the fish..~68-70 and removed some of the water (similar to bagging a fish for a long trip-MINIMAL WATER-lots of air...in this case not so drastic) enclosed the aquarium in THREE well taped layers of garbage bags, using DUCT tape to seal EVERYTHING...at the time I think I had a 50Gal a 55Gal and a 20 long...NO PROBLEMS, I was able to do this without loosing any fish (freshwater) and the foggers worked great, make sure that you get the dogs on some type of flea medication as well!

Good luck...

247Plants that's an awesome idea..

I've done asbestos work and I think the general rule can apply here. In asbestos work you want to have everything sealed off, in a particular containment, and as an extra precaution they have what they call a negative air machine.. basically its a big hepa filter that filters the air and sends it out through a sealed hole. This results in a constant negative pressure atmosphere in the containment. Hence, any leaks would only be inward and no contaminated air would escape.

I think you could apply the same theory, except the opposite, you want nothing to enter. So, in theory, you could essentially seal off the top of the tank; leave an airstone on inside the tank (sealing off the airtube hole), creating positive pressure inside the tank; it would result in air only escaping and thus reduce the risk of any contaminants entering......
I think, lol..
