I had a silver dollar that had a speck of white on it one day, and didnt think anything of it. The next day it had grown from a dot, to the size of one of those flattened souvenir pennies, I moved him to my q tank, and I noticed it was some kind of white growth, like a flesh eating bacteria. It had eaten most of his scales and down into his flesh. I imediately e-mailed my microbiologst professors and they gave me some advice. The next day, I found him dead and the fish bloated to three times his width and his growth had grown under his skin and you can tell where it was "soft" a discoloration more like. I am watching all of my other fish closely, and nothing has come about yet!! Dont know where this is from, since i havent introduced anything as far as fish, my hand and food. Any ideas? I can post a picture of the wound, but rated TVMA!
