Floating Briggs

Anyone know why a Brigg would just float around the surface of the tank for over a week? I've read somewhere that it is normal, but my question is....Is it HAPPY snail behavior? Anybody know what it indicates? (bad water quality, etc?)

What are your water parameters (ammonia, nitrite and nitrate)? Are you sure it just floats around all the time? Give it a sniff. If it smells disgusting, then the snail must be disposed as it could already be dead. What do you feed them? What size is the tank and what else are in it?

Edit: I'm adding more questions to gather more information. What are your pH and KH? Does your pH remain consistent at all? Try to pull the snail a little but not too hard as this may cause severe stress. Does it retract into its shell or just stays limp? What is the temperature of your tank? Where did you get the snail? How long have you had it? What size is this snail? Do you dose calcium at all?

It has not stopped floating in a week? Did you pull it off the glass at all? Is it eating at all or at all responsive. Though floating is not an abnormal behaviour, mine rarely go a week without eating.

my white one does this to. He just floats around like not a care in the world, he is a happy eater and my tank is perfect. he some times floats 2 or 3 days a week. yep he floats while out of his shell, I think he loves to do it and when he hits the water flow he moves all over the place. just a happy snail

My blue did this after laying a BUNCH of clutches. She laid and laid and laid, then just floated around for about a week. She's back to cruising around the tank now. I can't say that I blame her, I couldn't imagine producing that many clutches in a row without wanting to "conk out" for a week. I almost felt bad that I crushed every last one of them, lol.

I am postitive that it is not dead. Mostly, it keeps its lid shut tight, but sometimes it floats around half open. if you touch him at all he clams back shut.

My water params are all in the nrmal levels. I feed them snail jello (squash baby food this time with algae pellets, flake food, freezedried bloodworms, ReptiCal, and Micro Pellet guppy food by Hikari, with geletin to solidify). They also like to munch on all the leftover fish food on the bottom, particlularilay the sinking algae pellets and sinking shimp pellets. I have a cuttlefish bone in there, and drop in clcium pills from time to time. PH is 7.6-7.7. It is a 29 gallon aquarium. Temp is set at about 78 degrees. It houses guppies, platys, cori cats, a plecostomus, a rainbow shark, two bumble bee gobies, 2 Kuhli loaches, malasian trumpet snails, a couple of baby ramshorns, and about 7 or so brigs of varying sizes. Oh and is plated with low light auarium plants.
