I've got my new 75G FW setup and cycling now. I like having real plants in my tanks, however my experience has been that larger plecos destrory rooted plants. I have at least one pleco that I will be adding that is about 6" right now. One thing I have thought of are adding some floating plants, but I am totally new to floating plants... any suggestions.

Also, any suggestion on rooted plants surviving a pleco would be helpful too.

The best floating plant IMO is Brazilian Pennywort aka Hydrocotyle leucocephala

I wrap a few pieces near the top of my intake and let it just grow and spread out. Its a pretty quick grower also.
Even though it sits near the top it still needs good lighting. I've noticed anything less then 1.5 wpg kills it.

For on ground type plants I'd go with ferns, mosses, anabuis and swords or Vals or dwarf sag types even Crypts.. Things that can either be tied to driftwood, rocks or plants with extensive root systems.

Water lettuce looks pretty cool with the way the roots look, but it spreads like crazy. I put two small plants in my 72g about a month ago and now probably have 20 something and they are still multiplying.
