what do you recommend.. i have a 35 hex that will be primarily for platys and live plants.. i need floating plants for new born platys to hide in.. i have not had much luck finding them locally here in boston..

thanks in advance..

I use dwarf water lettuce whichs grows long lovely roots for fish to hide in. Hornwort which when left floating become a big frilly mass which are also great for fry to hide.
Some folks use frogbit or red root floater as well as riccia. I've had frogbit before but the roots on my DWL grow much bigger so I prefer that. I've never used riccia because I've always heard it's a very high light plant and I'm a very low tech person.
www.plantgeek.net is a great resource for all different types of plants. You can search by placement for all different floating plants as well.

Najas (guppy grass) is great for fry, it provides a good environment for micro-critters that the fry will feed on as well as cover.

i vote stem plants!

I had so many endler fry with the help of my najas I had to remove it. Now they hide out in the baby tears.

Endler's aren't likely to eat fry, neither are sailfin mollies IME. Swordtails and platys are a different story, very few fry will survive w/out good cover available.

i think i will go with hygro floating and i will putt guppy grass in my biorb
and i have a big clump of java moss in the hex.. so i hope the babies flock to it..

thanks for the advice..
