floating plants

Hey guys and gals,

I have a ten that is a little bright for me, i was wondering if there is a floating plant that would help tone it down a bit. I was thinking about duckweed, but thought i would check with y'all before, to see if there was something better.

ok so i did some research, and duckweed is not a good idea. So any other ideas would be appreciated. I like the way the indian fern looks. I hope i can get my hands on some.

Just out of curiosity why is duckweed not good?

I have read the duckweek can easily get out of control.

it can.
many other plants can be grown floating. wisteria, anacharis(elodea), cabomba, frill, or any other plant the feeds from the water column.

an article i found on duckweed said, "Duckweeds can be aggressive invaders of ponds and are often found mixed in with mosquito fern or watermeal. If colonies cover the surface of the water, then oxygen depletions and fish kills can occur."

water sprites. That's what they call the floating stuff in the pet stores here.

also, if you are just trying to dim your lights, there are other ways...

duckweed is fine. seriously. unless you don't think you could scoop a little bit out every month or so, then it seriously is not going to take over your tank and kill your fish and kids overnight. duckweed will make your water better for your fish.

freak angels will eat the stuff(duckweed) as will many other fish.
