floating plants

im going to start cycling the tank soon, using aprox. .2grams of Amonium chloride for a fishless cycle (hopefully i can get some of the water or something from the petstore to jumpstart the colonies). Ive heard from several people that its best to keep the plants in the tank as your cycling, and then again from different people that its best not to keep any plants until the cycle is done

which one?

are guppy fry more likely to seek refuge in the roots of floating plants such as water sprite or phyllanthus fluitans, or could i grow something like hair grass?
