blue=blue glass marbles to make it look like a river
light green=groundcover
dark green=plants
black=slate layed flat
all boundries will be slate stood on end

Not to scale!

Hoping for an arching piece of driftwood to place behind the back shelters and to look like a bridge of some sort.

Hola from SC! :hi:

Why not get a big decoration that actually IS a bridge? Just my 2¢...
Won't it be kind of a pain to keep the 'river' looking neat what with gravel vacuuming and all?

Go for it Ice !

The slate edging should help a bit in keeping the gravel seperate.

Definitely pics when you get it all setup. What type of background were you thinking of adding ? That's the FIRST thing I would do...before adding any water to the tank...it's much easier to get it on right when you can get at the back to do it.

I plan on using florite and pool filter sand as a substrate. The loaches and birchirs like to dig so that should help with dead spots.

As for cleanup, all I'd need to do if any mixes into the "river" is pull the marbles out and vac the sand back up,run it thru a strainer and put it back.

I've never had a background, guess I'll look into them, the wall behind the tank is a dark blue and always looked natural behind the tank.

I don't want a bridge perse..Just something that looks like one, maybe find some type of ivy plant that would wrap around it,is there a water ivy?If not maybe some java moss.

I thought that too, maybe run it from the left front corner to the center of the back in kind of an arching manner.

I'll post pics however I do decide to do it.

That's a great plan you've got going. Maybe you could use a low growing grassy looking plant along the edges of the "river" to help contain and create a more natural look?

Yeah I was planning on something like that for extra border patrol, was thinking java ferns but I think the taller grass type would look better, maybe a mix of both.
