I am setting up a 29 gllon tank. It will be heavily planted and I'm going to use excel and other ferts from seachemto dose for micro and macro nutients. I know amano shrimp can be sensitive to the nitrogen in excel. What invert's can I use for the inevitable algae that will grow in the tank. I don't mind snails but you all know sooooo much more than I do , what is my best choice? TIA,
I've found that pressurized co2 + excel == no more algae in my heavily-planted tank. I was shocked at how fast it disappeared... and stepped back to 2ml every other day in my 29g for fear of starving my poor otos. I'm thinking I'll probably up it to 2.5 since the algae has come back a little more than I'd like (and certainly more than enough to keep the otos happy).
My ghosts and red cherry shrimp don't seem to mind the excel so far.
I have several amano shrimp in my DP tank, and they've never seemed to mind exel dosing. I've even used a bit more than recommended at times (before i put vals in the tank), and never seen them have an issue with it. They also do a great job of algae control for the little bit of algae that grows in the tank.
I keep Amanos in addition to other inverts in some of my tanks and dose with Seachem/pressurized CO2 with no issues whatsoever for them. No pesky algae.
