Have you used both? If so what are your experences with them? The reason I post this is because they really are two pretty different forms of micro fertilization. Also, since I have strictly been using Flourish (lately, TPN is alot of $$$) my reds have waned, maybe coincidence, maybe not...

i personally use the flourish and think its awesome. i use flourish, and the flourish excel.

Have you tried Plantex CSM+B, its dirt-cheap and works?

Didn't get a whole lot of action on this so i'm going to resurrect it. After doing price comparisons here is the cost breakdown.

Flourish-$31 for. 2L 5ml per 50g.

PFertz-$30 for ~2L (1/2 Gallon). 1.2ml per 10g.

TPN-$80 for 2L. 5ml per ~12g.

I am considering the plantex csm-b aswell.

Does anyone have any experience or noticed any differences AFTER switching from one product to the other when NOTHING else changed but fert brand>

Is this what you are talking about:

Plantex CSM has no Boron in it, so it must either be added, or purchased from a supplier who pre-mixes Plantex CSM+B. To add Boron to Plantex CSM, add 10.5 teaspoons of Plantex CSM plus 1 teaspoon of Boric Acid.
To make your dosing solution, mix in 1/2 litre of water:
1 tablespoon of Plantex CSM+B and
1 tablespoon of Magnesium Sulfate in 1/2 litre of water.

A 1/2 liter of Plantex CSM Dosing Solution is a lot of solution for the typical aquarium, so you may wish to experiment by reducing the quantities to make a smaller batch. To reduce, you may wish to try 1 teaspoon of Plantex CSM+B and 1/6th liter of water (167 milliliters).

Many people recommend refrigerating your micro-nutrient solutions. Commercial products usually contain a Chloramine or Chloride as a preservative,

Thanks for the info dave.

I have decided on trying the plantex csm+b. A few pwople have said they have no problem dosing it dry in the tank with measuring spoons.

Any reasons for using any fert, dry compared to liquid and I am not talking about $$$!

i have used flourish and still have 3/4 of a full bottle sitting around because i switched to dry dosing.

switch to dry fertz. your wallet will love you for it. then buy your significant other flowers or beer (depending on gender and preferences) and apologize for wasting all your money on liquid fertz. if you have no significant other, go buy yourself some flowers or beer.

I use Flourish at the recommended dose of 5ml per 60 gallons and have no problems. I used TFP (Tetra Flora Pride) and it was just too expensive to fertilize on a regular basis. The Flourish/TFP switch-over did nothing harmful and my plants did well on both.

IMO you will get better (more even) % of the micro-nutrient in CSM+B if you add the water. I use a 20ml syringe when adding it. It's kept in the frig to prevent scum formation and (13 ml) shaken before use. Epson salt (magnesium sulfate) 1 5/8 teaspoon is added every other day dry and bought as a 6lb bag and added on the macro days with Potassium Sulfate 3/4 teaspoon every other day in the EI regiment %. I don't add Potassium Nitrate as my nitrates are a steady 15ppm out of the tap and the tank is between 20-25ppm. Potassium Phosphate 1/8 teaspoon or less is added dry every other day. 50% water change weekly on the 55 gallon tank with pressurized co2 and 130 watts compact flourescent 7 hours and midday burst of 130 more watts cf for 2 hours. My reds are fine and growth is fabulous, algae is minimal.
