I am thinking about a 20 gallon planted tank. But I'm not sure if I'm going to do it. This there any problems about putting flourite in under the top layer and then not have live plants?

That's a REALLY good question! Flourite is iron-rich, but I'm not sure if this would cause problems or not. You may want to post this question in the planted section and see what some of the guys there think.
Just my opinion, but plants rock
Once you go planted, it's hard to imagine going back - even though sometimes plants can be demanding, I find my tank much more interesting to care for now.
